In 2005, The US Department of Education granted funds to Closed Caption Latina to provide captioning and video descriptions for programs of educational value in Spanish. The main purpose of these funds is to provide Hispanic children with disabilities access to television programming.
The first block of TU TV Saturday programming using this format begins with Geoambiente at 3 pm. The program is presented by María Falcón, and it is the only local television program in which community, government, and scientific representatives gather to discuss environmental situations and offer solutions.
At 3:30 pm, when this show ends, Dímelo will begin. This program about health and medicine will be conducted by Lily García. It will host outstanding figures in the areas of disease prevention, medical treatments, and the most recent medical advances which will encourage tv viewers to develop a healthier life style.
At 4:30, ABC en señas, the first public service program on the Puerto Rican television, will begin.. This is a show for the hearing impaired community in which they can share their challenges and accomplishments. The moderators, José Beltrán and Edgardo Díaz, share interviews, lessons on sign language, and profiles of places of interest on our island.
